To All Students;
First and foremost, thank you for your patience in crossing the picket lines and when you experience delays in service during the strike by our support staff union. While it is a frustrating experience, it is a legal strike action. The people on the picket line are valued members of the Fleming College community. Patience and respect continues to be the best approach for all.
In Peterborough, delays at the Brealey Drive or Dobbin Road entrances have been excessive. We have shared your comments and expressed our own concerns with the local support staff union leadership. They are responding to these comments and we anticipate shorter delays.
In Lindsay and Haliburton, there have been delays when driving into the campuses, however, overall these delays have been more reasonable.
Parking and bus transit in Peterborough has also been challenging because of the delays.
Peterborough Transit is changing its routes based on the volume of traffic on Brealey Drive. Drop off will either be at the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre or along the Dobbin Road entrance.
There is no charge for parking at the Sutherland Campus in lots E, D, F and H for the duration of the strike. Please do not park on the side of Dobbin Road or Brealey Drive, or in the St. Josephs at Fleming or Peterborough Sport & Wellness parking lots. You will be ticketed. Peterborough police may also be posting no parking signs in neighbourhoods adjacent to the college. If you do choose to park in areas where parking is allowed, please be respectful of driveway entrances and do not leave litter behind.
At the Frost Campus, there is no charge for parking for the duration of the strike. Lindsay Transit will not cross the picket line. Buses will drop students off on Albert Street.
Students are encouraged to car-pool, walk, bike or take transit to all campuses.
Of great concern to many of you is the processing of OSAP applications and disbursements. Please find below a new Question and Answer Bulletin from the Registrars Office with updates on OSAP, Timetables, Photo ID and Payments. We will also post this information to our website.
We have posted other updated information on our website under the news item What’s Open? / What’s Closed?
As you know, most of our IT staff is also on strike. We are doing the best we can to provide network and service support for students and faculty, but it is reasonable to expect delays and some interruptions of service when using college information systems.
We are hopeful that negotiations will resume soon, however we cant speculate on when that might occur. You can review the final bargaining positions of the union and management which are posted at: www.thecouncil.on.ca
If you have any specific questions, please send them to strikeinfo@flemingc.on.ca
Thank you again for you patience.

September 08, 2011 — Important Update - Timetables, OSAP, and Other Important Information from the Office of the Registrar
Q & A for Students From the Office of the Registrar
We appreciate the patience and understanding demonstrated by students who have used our services. Our areas of primary focus continue to be getting timetables to students and addressing any urgent financial need matters. Below is an updated summary of questions related to our services for the Peterborough and Lindsay campuses.
What are the Hours of Operation? Both the Lindsay and Peterborough Offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fri. Sept 9th and for the week of Sept 12th. In addition, hours will be extended to accommodate OSAP appointments until 6 pm.
How do I get a Timetable?
If you do not have an electronic timetable on the student portal please come to the Office of the Registrar. You will be provided with a paper-copy timetable provided you have met all admission requirements. This will be the timetable for your use until further notice. It will not be posted on the student portal at this time. We appreciate that students in this situation will not have access to Web CT and we are working on solutions to address this issue.
How do I ensure that my Timetable (either electronic or paper-based) includes all courses I am required to take this semester?
Please check the college website and click on the program link to determine if all courses listed for your semester of study are included on your timetable.
What if I need General Education and/or other Elective Courses that are not on my timetable?
If your timetable IS available on the student portal (electronic timetable) please do the following:
You are encouraged to use the online self-service function. To assist with this, please visit the on-line Timetable Tutor which can be accessed by selecting the Student Resources tab in the student portal. If you require assistance after trying the on-line self service, please visit the Office of the Registrar.
If you are a first semester student and you still require a Communications (Comm) course to be added to your timetable, review your timetable next Monday morning to ensure that this course has been added. This will be done by the Office of the Registrar. Please note this is not a requirement for all programs. On a related note, communications testing has been suspended at this time. Those students who have not yet completed the testing will be placed in the core course.
If your timetable IS NOT available on the student portal (paper-based timetable) please do the following.
If you require a general education elective to be added to your timetable, beginning Friday Sept 9th, please contact either Silvana MacDonald (simacdon@flemingc.on.ca) or Ann Drennan (adrennan@flemingc.on.ca) , ext 1637 or drop by room 5922 to discuss and access various course options. If you are required to take any other elective courses not already listed on your timetable, please advise the Dean of your School.
How do I Secure my OSAP Funds?
If you DO have an OSAP appointment already booked please plan to attend. For those who have appointments booked for the week of Sept. 12th ,we are requesting that if your appointment is for noon or later, please arrive one hour after your booked time. For example, if you have an appointment booked for 1 p.m. please arrive at 2 p.m. You can expect delays in service.
If you DO NOT already have an OSAP appointment booked, we will be opening up more days for appointments Sept. 20th to 23rd. We will advise you when the online booking system will be open to book these appointments.
If you have an urgent financial need matter please come to the office.
How long will it take for me to receive my OSAP funds if I have already signed or will soon be signing my loan documents?
Once your loan documents are signed, similar to the past timelines, you can anticipate that the funds will be in your account within approximately 5 to 10 business days.
If you would like to inquire about the status of your loan, please call the National Student Loans Service Centre at 1-888-815-4514.
